Maybe use it only for a 3D text in a video and gradually use it more as they get more acquainted, buying the inevitable license when cinema is well-ingrained in their workflow. Many people will learn 3D as they go along.

You can't just 'test out' a program in a 30-day trial unless you hardly do anything else (and, who, in the professional creative world has time to do that?).

Eventually most people using pirated software and end up earning a living with it also end up getting a license.ģD has a very steep learning curve.

The more people you can get to use your software the better, figure out on how to get them paying you later. It's a highly specialized and competitive market with a lot of players, and, as such, you want the biggest piece of market share you can get. just compare it to audio/video/image/DTP, every other creative sector which uses computers extensively and you quickly notice there are, comparably, a lot more 3D packages around. Even high-end, there are just too many players on the field for the little market professional 3D artists are.

ATM, there is an over abundance of different 3D software. I don't know if it's a strategy or not, but piracy as a marketing strategy has certainly be used to good effect in the past and given the right market conditions is a good idea.Ī lot depends on the field you're playing in. the only I didn't saw mentioned yet is the marketing angle. There are so many angles on this one and most of them are covered in the comments already. I know you can get by with older versions, but fuck. I believe they'd end up with so many more users they'd end up making more money. They way overcharge for their annual upgrades. I would have MAXON cut their prices by 90% and go to a subscription service like Adobe. And C4D is a lot pricier than Reason.they just might do it. It's been a long time since anyone's pirated Reason. We should be aware that MAXON could always go to a dongle-based protection scheme. Piracy becomes less viable as a practical matter. Life is too short to waste energy on that sort of nonsense. Do you really want employees or co-workers or clients to have the fact you use pirated software on you? What, are you going to systematically lie to them? Not to mention occasionally losing hours (or days) trying to get that crack working on a new system/operating system. The hard reality is that once you get into the real world, it gets harder to be an upstanding member with pirated stuff. You wouldn't want your clients to wait until your work has somehow paid off for them before they paid you. That said, I think most of us have, at times, treated it as a necessary evil and a near-harmless ends-justifies-the-means situation: pirate stuff to train on, buy it when clients pay you.īut even that mindset isn't one that holds much water. Since then I have purchased all of my software and it's a very nice feeling when you do! As well as a thank you to the company who's software is responsible for where I am today in my career. The reasoning for getting the license was to protect myself in case MAXON audited users on forms, video sites, etc where they could easily find me and find out my real name (that would not of been good.). I used it for about four years and by then I was making enough from freelancing to get myself a studio license (started when I was 17 and I'm 24 now). That kind of mindset not only helps their profits as a company, but creates an ever increasing licensed user base year by year. I would assume that they allow this so that once some of these people that pirate their software get better and better, they may end up in a studio with a copy or freelancing with a licensed version. Personally I think that they do this on purpose (or at least never bothered to use a far more effective means of security), this is my reasoning. They also know that a very large percentage of their user base are teens on the internet looking to trying something different.

Maxon knows full well that their program is by far one of the easiest to 'crack' out there (literally all you have to do is enter a serial # provided by the torrent uploader).
